Obituary

Holly Smith, 59, passed away surrounded by loved ones on January 9, 2025 in Rexburg, Idaho. Holly was born on October 25, 1965 in Pasadena, California to Barry and Marilyn Smith.

She graduated from Brigham Young University in 1989 where she earned her Bachelor's degree in English. While in school she also enjoyed participating in choir classes, hiking, and reading. During her career, she worked as an editor at BYU, Covenant Books, and Nature Sunshine.

After graduation she met her husband, Dwight Sederholm. They were married in the Oakland, California temple. They would later divorce. They welcomed their first child, Sarah, while living in Hobbs, New Mexico and their second, Ryan, after relocating to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Holly was an incredible, loving mother.

Holly lived in Loveland, Colorado for much of her adult life. She raised her children there. She was a compassionate visiting teacher and friend to many people. She also served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as a ward chorister and enjoyed participating in the ward choir. She was always quick to look for ways to serve those around her and make others feel welcome and appreciated. She had a strong testimony of her Savior Jesus Christ. This was evident in her love of the scriptures and the temple. She lived her life with faith and taught her children the importance of prayer.

She was talented at cross-stich, scrapbooking and sewing. She often helped her mother, who was a professional florist, create beautiful floral arrangements. Her love of English was evident throughout her life. She was an expert at games like Boggle and Scrabble and she loved crossword puzzles.

As a teenager, Holly suffered a traumatic brain injury that affected her for the rest of her life. This injury impacted her memory and she faced many health challenges. She was never the kind of person to give up. When difficult assignments arose in college that required memorization, or when faced with other obstacles, she fought hard to achieve her goals. She worked hard at everything that she did and was an example of dedication, perseverance, and honesty.

She is survived by her children; Ryan Sederholm of Fort Collins, Colorado and Sarah Sederholm of Salt Lake City, Utah.  She is also survived by her father, Barry Smith of Rexburg, Idaho and her siblings; Troy (Kali) Smith of Rexburg, Idaho, Adam (Gelin) Smith of Blackfoot, Idaho and Darren (Tamra) Smith of San Tan, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her mother, Marilyn Smith.
