Obituary

Howard Othell Clark, age 89 of Rexburg, died Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Idaho Falls. He was born July 12, 1920 at Teton, Idaho to Hyrum Justice Clark and Nora Sebina Jacobsen Clark.
Howard went to work, farming for his uncles, after his sophomore year of high school. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1942 and served on the USS Pensacola in the Pacific Corridor for three and a half years during World War II.

After the war he worked for George Siepert and then met Darlene Glover and they eloped and were married at Dillon, Montana April 21, 1947. They lived at Rexburg and Teton and he farmed with his uncles and worked at the Youth Service Center in St. Anthony. In 1962 he began working for Meyers brothers cattle operation where he worked for twenty-five years as their cowboy veterinarian. In 1966 he bought a farm in Salem, Fremont County.

Howard was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many church callings. His favorites were in Scouting and the mountain trips, with horses, with the boys. During the Teton Flood he was put in charge of gathering and caring for all the cattle that had scattered. What a job!

After Darlene died in August 1986 he married Dorothy Ann Ard in April of 1987 and they lived at Rexburg. Shortly after they married, he retired. He loved his family deeply and was involved in their activities. Howard was honored as The Cattleman of the Year in 1995 by the Fremont-Madison Cattlemen's Association and in 2000 he was inducted into the Eastern Idaho Horsemen's Hall of Fame.

His family is going to miss this kind, gentle man and feel so blessed to have had him in their lives for so many years.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy Ard Clark of Rexburg, daughters; Lynette (Ron) Rose of St. Anthony, Charlotte (Phillip) Smart of Aubery, California and Indian placement daughter Rhonda Woodruff Flores of LaPush, Washington, step-daughters; Beverly (Cameron) Wheeler of Ririe and Marsha Olson of Ririe, 11 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
