Ingrid Blomquist

Ingrid Elisabet Blomqvist passed away peacefully at home Monday morning, July 27th, 2026, in Rexburg (Lyman) Idaho surrounded by her family after a short battle with lymphoma and alzheimer’s disease at the age of 82. Ingrid is the oldest child of Lilly Sofia Viola Östlund and Ivar Valentin Blomqvist. She was born in Falun, Darlana, Sverige (Sweden) on May 27th, 1944, and spent her entire childhood growing up with her little brother in Borlänge, Sverige surrounded by their many close relatives.

Ingrid joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints along with her brother and mother when she was nine years old, less than two months before the family lost their father from a tragic work accident. She served in the Stockholm Sweden Mission from 1965 to 1966, where she made many dear friends. She was a life-long devoted member of the church and held many various callings over the years.

Heavily influenced by the American dream circulating in Europe, Ingrid longed to come to the United States from an early age. She attended BYU in the late sixties and later married Steven Fisk in southern California. Together they had two children, Shirley Elisabet and Lilly Diane, while living in California. Ingrid returned home to Sweden with her girls in 1975. She was remarried to Lars-Olle Holst in January of 1979. Together they had three children, David Michael, Michaela Rebecka Viola, and Lars Mathias.

In 1990, Ingrid moved with her five children to Rexburg, Idaho, leaving behind a beautiful home in the forest as well as the safety net of her family with a firm conviction that this area would provide a better life for her children. She attended Ricks College and Lewis-Clark State College and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. During this time, Ingrid often worked three jobs, attended her children’s school activities, and held various callings in her local ward.

After graduating college, she was employed by Madison School District as a substitute teacher and a paraprofessional. She also worked for BYU-Idaho in the Hart Building for many years where she made dear friends and lifelong connections. Ingrid had a deep love for the temple and spent many years as an ordinance worker in the Rexburg, Idaho temple. She cherished this calling and looked forward to cultivating the relationships she had built through her service there.

In 2002, one of Ingrid’s biggest dreams came true when she moved into a home of her own in Lyman (south of Rexburg) with ample space to grow a garden. She lived there until October of 2023, at which point her two youngest children began caring for her in their homes due to complications with Alzheimer's. Ingrid alternated between their homes, constantly surrounded by family until the very end of her life.

Ingrid had a deep and profound love for her children and grandchildren. She would consistently request to babysit the grandkids who lived nearby and would never say no to an opportunity to spend time with any of them. Ingrid also developed a nurturing spirit for pets in her older years. She could spend hours playing and cuddling with the family dogs and cats.

During her life, Ingrid spread joy to all those she encountered. She was a dedicated and ambitious saleswoman. She spent many years successfully selling Tupperware in Sweden and transitioned to selling Avon in Rexburg. Her children often accompanied her while delivering Avon, enabling them to make meaningful connections and memories with her friends.

Ingrid and her brother Ingvar were die-hard Elvis fans. They were obsessed with The King of Rock and shared this special love of music together. Many of Ingrid’s children grew up enjoying music and she made sure to attend every single concert, chaperoning for school trips whenever possible. There were few things in this world she enjoyed more than listening to music, especially when her children and grandchildren were involved. She had a special love for The Sound of Music and Singing in The Rain. As her Alzheimer's disease progressed, these films brought her comfort and happiness. In her last months, she would often sing, on repeat, “I’m singing and dancing in the rain.” It only seemed fitting that a brief and soft summer rain fell as she passed away early Monday morning.

Gardening, quilting, crocheting, and knitting were among her favorite hobbies. She especially enjoyed crafting gifts for her family and friends in the form of baby booties, washcloths, bags, scarves, hats, and more. Ingrid also took great pride in making elderberry blossom juice, Swedish rolls, and other traditional Swedish foods. She was a self-proclaimed chocoholic and cheese-addict. While living with her children the last few years, she was often caught red-handed, snitching cheese and chocolate.

Ingrid would light up when she met anyone with any connection to or interest in Sweden. She was often helping others to learn more about Sweden by teaching them Swedish phrases and how to make Swedish foods. Once she knew someone had a connection to Sweden, she loved speaking “Swenglish” to them, giggling in delight every time.

Ingrid is survived by her brother: Nils Ingvar (Ann-Britt) Blomqvist, her five children: Shirley Elisabet Larsson, Lilly Diane (Steve) Killingsworth, David Michael Holst Blomquist, Michaela Rebecka Viola Holst Blomqvist, Lars Mathias Holst (Sarah) Blomquist, and her 14 grandchildren: Kaleb, Jeffrey, Ashlan, Elsa, Kajsa, Jonatan, Natanael, Johanna, Ella, Maja, Natalie, Madalie, Myles, and Mailey. Ingrid is preceded in death by her parents: Lilly Sofia Viola Östlund and Ivar Valentin Blomqvist, and her son-in-law: Anders Johan Larsson.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2026 at the Lyman LDS Chapel. The family will only receive friends Friday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lyman LDS Church. Interment will be in the Sutton Cemetery.
