Isaiah Wilford Quinlan, 26, currently of Rexburg, died Monday, July 5th at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was born March 21, 1984, in Orem Utah to Grant Wade Quinlan and Julie Ann Baker. Upon his father's graduation, the family moved to Silicon Valley. He attended Millikin and Noddin Elementary Dartmouth Jr. High and Leigh High School in Santa Clara County, California.
He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Despite his diabetes he served a full time mission in Tempe Arizona from 2004 to 2006, even though the only way for him to go required an additional $400 a month for personal medical insurance to cover his Type I diabetes.
Isaiah earned the rank of Eagle Scout and earned 31 merit badges. His eagle project required over 900 service hours to complete.
He enjoyed running cross country throughout his schooling. He ran the Teton Dam Marathon in 4 hours and 30 minutes in 2007 and volunteered as a cross country coach while at BYU-Idaho.
Isaiah met Holly Patten at BYU-I and married her in the Provo LDS Temple, near her home. They would have celebrated their second wedding anniversary July 30, 2010.
Isaiah was involved in Student government at BYU-Idaho and this was to be his last semester plus one class.
Isaiah had a "secret" persona as "Captain Happy" a super hero. He loved to make people happy and developed this super hero as a result of a high school assignment. He was sometimes glimpsed with his yellow smiley face cape throughly enjoying life and meeting new people.
Isaiah started to secretly write poetry in Junior High School, and continued throughout his life. He was very popular for the raps he wrote, especially for the local missionaries answering machines.
He relished a good book and loved reading books about psychology, literature and poetry. He also loved reading cook books and enjoyed testing his newly found recipes.
He is survived by his wife, Holly, a five month old daughter, Lucy, his parents
Funeral services will be held 9:00 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2010 at the BYU-Idaho 9th Stake Center, 289 West 7th South in Rexburg. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
