Ivan Lamoine Freeman, age 88 of Rexburg, died Sunday, January 10, 2010 at his home of natural causes. He was born November 15, 1921 in Independence, Idaho to Herbert Robert Freeman and Amanda Jensen Freeman.
He attended Independence Elementary School and graduated from Madison High School in Rexburg. He lived his entire life on the family farm except his period of service in World War II from 1942 to 1945. He served in the 87th Armored Field Artillery, European Theatre, where he crossed the English Channel for the invasion of France on D-Day. He returned to marry the girl he exchanged letters with during his military service, the one he wanted to marry the first time he saw her, Verla Benson. They were married June 21, 1946 at Thornton, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS temple.
He worked at Ricks College in the Mechanical Services Department for fifteen years. With a book and his natural abilities, he could fix anything. He spent time with his family exploring historical Idaho and in his later years he loved hearing about his children's and grandchildren's adventures. He spent evenings reading whatever he could get his hands on. Later, with failing eye sight, books were replaced with talking books. He often said he was very proud of every one of his family members. He was loved by everyone who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Verla Freeman of Rexburg and children; Colleen Fulkerson of Antioch, California, Layne (Trudy) Freeman of Rexburg, Marlon (Marianne) Freeman of Rigby and Shelley Dye of Rigby, a sister; May Fowler of Anaheim, California, 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers; Deril, Don and Calvin.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the Burton LDS Church. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Thursday at the church from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, with military rites, will be in the Burton Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to www.flammfh.com.
