Obituary

Our beloved and cherished husband and father, Colonel Ronald Jack Layton passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 15, 2013 with his loving wife by his side.

Dad was born October 27, 1927 in Eagar Arizona to Malon Bruce Layton and Delma Hamblin Layton. He grew up in the Arizona Mountains surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles and lots of cousins. As a boy he loved riding horses, fishing and doing anything in the great out of doors.

Dad joined the Air Force and had a fantastic career. He set many speed records and is in numerous publications for his incredible record breaking flights. He was one of the first test pilots of the supersonic A12. During his time with the CIA he received the distinguished intelligence Star and numerous other decorations for his incredible skills as a pilot. Dad spoke publicly on many occasions about his accomplishments as a pilot. He often showed his films and told of his courageous, life threatening flights. He would tell the kids at grade schools that he could fly faster than superman.

Dad loved horses. After he retired he started a horse ranch in Rexburg Idaho. He raised Paso Fino horses. On Saturdays he and a few of his friends would go to the Tetons and ride. Dad loved being in the mountains feeling one with nature.

Dad was able to serve in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple for many years. He would tell you that of all things he has accomplished in his life, serving the Lord in the temple was his greatest calling.
Jack married Eunice Clark on March 31, 1947 in the Salt Lake City Temple. She has been a loving companion for 66 years. She has lovingly and faithfully cared for him for the past 10 years while he has been ill.

He survived by his wife, Eunice C. Layton, daughter Karen Layton, 8 grandchildren and 16
great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Janice Marie and a son Larry Graham, one brother and one sister.
