James A. DeMott, 89 of Rexburg, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 in Rexburg. He was born in Iona, Idaho on April 13, 1925 to Clyde Lee and Clara DeMott. He spent his younger years in Iona and Bone where his father was employed. When Jim was eighteen years old he enlisted in the Navy. He served on a hospital ship during World War II. He learned his life-long occupation as a barber in the military. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Rexburg, Idaho with his wife Shirley and family to work in a local barber shop with his uncle Joe. He later purchased the business and worked almost fifty years in the community.
Jim was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was active in the Lion's Club, Rexburg Upper Valley Wranglers, and little league baseball. He was an avid golfer, bowler and outdoorsman. He loved fishing and hunting with his friends.
Jim married Shirley Luonna Sayer on February 27, 1943 in Idaho Falls. She died May 29,1993.
He is survived by three daughters; Darla Dee (Jay Grant) Sewell of Driggs, Tonia Kae Lusk of Rexburg, Deidre Ann (R. Jay) Taylor of Idaho Falls, 9 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, two sons, two grandsons, his parents and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 27, 2012 at the Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and on Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Iona Cemetery with military rites.
