Obituary

Norma Jean Archibald Spaulding, 92, of Burton, Idaho, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon November 5, 2023, at Carriage Cove with her loving family by her side.

Jean made her entrance into the world on July 13, 1931, on her mother's birthday, at her Grandparent's house in Rexburg, the youngest daughter of Russell and Zelma Fife Archibald. She grew up and attended school in Rexburg and graduated from Madison High School in 1949.

Jean caught the eye of Bruce Spaulding and they dated until Jean graduated from High School and they were married July 20, 1949, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Together, they raised six boys: Brad, Scott, Kim, Jim, Dan, and Joe.

Jean was a devoted Mom to her six boys while also working various jobs such as Ashliman's Shoe Store, The Admissions and Registration Office at Ricks College, and retiring from Madison School District Office. Jean cherished the many friendships she made during her working career.

Jean and Bruce served a Family History Mission in Salt Lake City, UT. After they returned home, they continued their mission service at the Ricks College Family History Center. Jean served in many capacities within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints her favorite being Stake Relief Society President.

Jean was a beautiful lady who took great pride in always looking put together. She spent many hours in her yard and watering all her many flowerpots, she loved a well-kept yard. Her home was warm and comfortable with her eye for decorating and always immaculate. Many family gatherings were enjoyed around Jean's beautifully set table to enjoy a delicious meal topped off with some kind of chocolate delight. Never underestimate her cunning strategy at the latest card game or her prowess fro defeating a challenging puzzle around the table. Many memories and laughs were enjoyed.

Jean was a good sport to support and tag along on many boy outings. She would pack a lunch and head out hunting, fishing, or to hit the ski hill. These activities were a bit of an adjustment for Jean but with encouragement from Bruce and the boys she loved the time spent as a family.

Jean's sons and daughters-in-law have had the privilege to care for her the past two years since Bruce's passing, many a fun lunch date was enjoyed, or a trip to the doctor, or maybe a ride to get gas and a mug have been enjoyed. Jean raised six boys who truly loved their mother, and that love was also shared by their daughters-in-law.

Jean is survived by four sons, Scott (Lisa) Spaulding of Rexburg, ID; Kim (Becky) Spaulding of Indianola, UT; Dan (Pat) Spaulding of Rexburg, ID; and Joe (Tannis) Spaulding of Rexburg, ID,
23 grandchildren, 78 great grandchildren with 4 more on the way and one great great grandchild.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband Bruce, her parents Russ and Zelma Archibald, one sister Glenna Webster; two sons Brad Spaulding and Jim Spaulding, daughter-in-law Annette Spaulding, three grandsons Ned Russell, Jason Russell, and Bruce William Spaulding.
