Jerome Sunde Barrick, 88, passed away peacefully, Thursday, April 30, 2015, surrounded by his family, at his home in Rexburg.
Jerome was born in Hutchinson, Minnesota to Lowell R. and Stella Amanda Sunde Barrick, on January 10, 1927, the oldest of three children. He attended schools in Minnesota, Montana, Ashton, Idaho and graduated from Madison High School in Rexburg in 1945.
He enlisted in the Navy Air Corp while still in school and received his training in Oklahoma, Georgia and Florida. He served on the U.S.S. Boxer en route to China.
Jerome joined his father in the land leveling business directly after his release from the Navy and spent the next forty years working with farmers in Madison and Fremont counties.
He married Margaret Thompson on June 2, 1952 in Rexburg, Idaho. This loving couple were blessed with two sons and two daughters, nine grandsons and nine granddaughters, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Jerome loved the outdoors and was an avid goose hunter, earning the name of "Goose Barrick" with many of the people in Rexburg. He loved to fish on the Madison River in Montana. He also loved aviation and was a very skillful and safe pilot. He enjoyed flying many different styles of aircraft.
In 1986, Jerome was able to help his son, Scott, in the candy business. They worked together for several years before he was hired by the Madison School District as a bus driver, a job he truly loved. He loved the students and they loved him. He drove bus for fifteen years, retiring at the age of 80.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, sons R. Scott Barrick and John T. (Jeanette) Barrick; daughters Sunde (Ray) Lindstrom and Shelley (John) Hegsted, all of Rexburg. Nine grandsons, nine granddaughters and sixteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Bonita Rule and two brothers-in-law Frank W. Thompson and Roger Gerber Thompson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 4, at the Rexburg 4th and 15th Wards Chapel, 166 South 1st East. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home, 61 North 1st East, in Rexburg and Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Burial will be in the Rexburg Cemetery.
