His first home was in Idaho Falls, Idaho and before he was a year old his family moved to St. Anthony, Idaho where they lived in several homes before his family bought a ranch in Wilford, Idaho.
After his father, RJ Browning, bought a car dealership and named it Browning Motors, the family moved back to St. Anthony and Jerry was put to work at the car dealership washing cars, changing tires, changing oil and he learned to work on engines.
Jerry graduated from South Fremont High school in 1953. He attended college at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, majoring in Business. In 1955 he was called to serve in the New Zealand Mission, a call that would end up solidifying his testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout his life and provide a lifetime of good memories.
At the beginning of his mission, he was assigned to work on the New Zealand Temple which was later renamed to be the Hamilton New Zealand Temple. He also did proselyting work and was assigned to do construction work on the dorms at the Church College.
When Jerry returned home, he attended Rick's College in Rexburg, Idaho and decided to make Business his major. It was during this time that he met his wife Sandra Kay Parker and later became engaged and then married in the Idaho Falls Temple on April 23, 1958. Jerry worked for his father at Browning Motors, in St. Anthony, for a number of years as manager in charge of all departments. Later, Jerry started a farm machinery business named JB Equipment.
In December 1984, Jerry and his family moved to Leeds, Utah, and later to Silver Reef Utah. It was here that Jerry first worked at the St. George Temple in security, and later on grounds and physical facilities for a period of about 10 years. He was also working at the same time as a water master for the city of Leeds which led to him being recruited to work for Rural Water of Utah as a ground water technician.
In the year of 2004-2005 Jerry and Sandra moved from Leeds, Utah, back to Rexburg, Idaho. Jerry and Sandra served a faithful 12 year mission as Family History missionaries at the BYU Idaho Family History Center.
In 2022, Jerry and Sandra moved to Mesquite, Nevada to be closer to family living there and take advantage of the warmer temperatures. Jerry was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served faithfully in many callings during his life that included Home Teacher, Minister, Gospel doctrine teacher, and Bishopric counselor.
Jerry loved his family and their visits and he will be greatly missed.
