IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jerry
May
December 28, 1946 – April 6, 2021
Another beautiful soul entered heaven on April 6, 2021, as Jerry Thomas May passed away, due to liver and kidney complications in St. Anthony, Idaho, surrounded by his family. He was born December 28, 1946, in St. Anthony, Idaho, the son of Murlan Theodore May and Elda Lillian Hobbs May. He was one of a set of twins who completed their family.
Jerry grew up and attended elementary schools in Ashton and St. Anthony, ID and graduated from South Fremont High School in 1966. He grew up learning the value of hard work and the importance of family.
In high school he worked for B Hedrick in Ashton, ID hauling hay and driving truck during harvest time. After high school he worked odd jobs, including running the projectors at the Roxy Theater, which continued after he started a more full-time job. He began working for Union Pacific Railroad in 1973, as a section hand until suffering a back injury. He again began working odd jobs to provide for his family before beginning to work for Artco in Rexburg, ID in 1987, where he made many lasting friendships. He retired in 2011.
On April 11, 1969, he married the love of his life, Sheila Anne Lloyd in Newdale, ID. Sheila brought 4 children from previous relationships to the marriage, to whom he proudly took on the role as their father. These children were as much his children as the other 4 who would be welcomed through their union.
Jerry always had a love of drawing and was a very accomplished artist. He also was a great carpenter and made hope chests for each of his daughters, a cradle for a granddaughter, and many, many toys for his grandchildren and family reunions. He enjoyed reading, especially books surrounding the Revolutionary and Civil War eras and he also never found a jigsaw puzzle that he was not able to complete and he probably put together thousands. A garden was always his enjoyment in the summer and early fall. Many neighbors and friends enjoyed the bounty of this hard work. He always enjoyed having his family around him and playing games and cards with them. Games were always a big part of family life. There were always many excursions on family fishing trips and visits to Yellowstone National Park. He loved sharing the wonders of nature with his children and grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Sheila, and their children: Shauna Garner, Paul (Deborah) Crawford, Dauna (Russell) Boone, Joseph (Stacy) Rawson, Christina May, Melanie (Aaron) Hinckley, Jason May, and Jeffrey (Julie) May. And his siblings: Marvin (Betty) May and Gene (Merrilee) May. Along with 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Murlan and Elda, his siblings Doyle May, Janice Allgood, LaRae Holmes, and a brother-in-law, Kevin Holmes.
