James "Jim" Gust Morris, 77, of Rexburg, died June 12, 2014, at Madison Memorial Hospital of natural causes. He was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on September 11, 1936 to the union of Gust K. Morris and Constance Lagos Morris. Jim was a fun loving child known for his pranks and great love of the outdoors. Jim graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1955. It was there that he met his wife of 57 years, Lela Gardner Morris. Jim and Lela were married on February 10, 1956. They were blessed with 3 beautiful children.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman enjoying, fishing, hunting, trap shooting, golfing and traveling. Jim had the entrepreneurial spirit and owned several businesses in Blackfoot (Sporting Goods and Gunsmith ) and Rexburg (Hallmark Store, Laundromat, Flower shop) in addition to investment properties. Jim was also an accomplished gardener and carpenter. He took special pride in his yard which was well known for its beautiful flowers and landscaping. Jim retired in 1996 and spent his time traveling , fishing, hunting and enjoying time with his family. He particularly enjoyed his annual fishing trips to Canada, trap shooting competitions, relaxing at his timeshare in Cabo San Lucas, spending winters in Lake Havasu, Arizona and summers at his home in Island Park, Idaho.
Jim is survived by his lovely wife, Lela Gardner Morris, son, David Morris of Mesquite, Nevada, daughter Alisha A. Morris (Angela) of Lakewood, California and daughter, Demii L. von Mettenheim (Mark) of St. Anthony, Idaho, sister, Urania Brown (Garry) of Idaho Falls, Idaho, grandchildren, Marc Morris (Elsa), Christy Bullock (Chad), Michelle Morris, Kaili Morris, Brent Daugherty (Mikelle), Kellie Siepert (Gerald), God-grandson, Bingmo Jin, great grandchildren, Grant Morris, Gabriela Morris, Braxten Bullock and Brycen Bullock and many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Gust K. Morris and Constance Lagos Morris as well as his sister, Angie Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, at the Rexburg LDS North Stake Center. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home and Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the stake center prior to services.
In lieu flowers, memorials may be made to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.
