Obituary

Mary J'Lean Jiles, age 90, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017, in Meridian, Idaho. J'Lean was born on May 5, 1926 in Rexburg, Idaho. She was the daughter of Warren Arthur Ricks and Gladys Jenette Huskinson Ricks. She grew up in Sugar City with her sister, Bertie Ricks Smith. She graduated from Sugar-Salem High School. She attended Ricks College and graduated from the LDS Nursing School in Idaho Falls. She also served as an instructor for one year at the nursing school.

She married Stanley Romaine Jiles on June 14, 1949 in Sugar City, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on October 12, 1950. They spent most of their married life in Santa Ana, California, where Stan worked in the construction industry. After Stan's retirement, they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. He passed away on April 28, 1994. J'lean remained in Salt Lake until she moved to Meridian, Idaho in July 2014 to be closer to her family.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, J'Lean served in many callings. One of her favorites was serving as a teacher in Primary and in the Relief Society. She served as Primary president, Relief Society secretary, and in many positions in visiting teaching organization. She was very dependable and organized. She enjoyed helping and visiting with people. She spent many years helping both her parents and her in-laws in their later years. She loved listening to beautiful music and enjoyed gardening.

One of her greatest loves was her family and she enjoyed spending time with them. She was a wonderful cook and loved making meals very special at her home. Her home was always open and welcomed many visitors. She is going to be missed by many.

She is survived her three children: Jenny Pennock of Boise, Idaho, Jeff Jiles (Shirleen) of Saint Maries, Idaho and Janelle (Pat) McLaughlin of Meridian, Idaho. She has 9 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Stan, her parents Warren and Gladys Ricks, her sister, Bertie Smith, son-in-law, Mike Pennock, a grandson, Preston Michael Pennock and a great-granddaughter, Lexie Ricks.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, January 14, at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening, January 13, from 6:30-8 pm and again Saturday from 12-12:45 pm prior to services. Interment will be in the Sugar City Cemetery.
