On February 10, 2017, Jo Ann Oakey passed away and joined her parents, Harriet Eva Stacey and Edward Ray Drown, and siblings Nola and Eva Lee. She lived a fulfilling life and sacrificed much of her time and efforts to serve her family. We will miss her stalwart example as a mother and grandma and will cherish her legacy. She was a talented homemaker, making clothes for her children and grandchildren and was able to make whatever she needed to fit the needs of her family. JoAnn was also a fantastic cook whose, treats were appreciated by many. She was known as "Jo Cookie" to her family.
JoAnn also served the community as a Pee Wee League and Little League coach for several years. Many of the boys appreciated her confidence in them and the things she taught. JoAnn also enjoyed having wonderful friends and neighbors in the community.
JoAnn and her husband Max served an LDS mission in Minnesota which was a highlight of her life. She was able to help many and taught them the gospel.
JoAnn and her husband Max Garth Oakey raised five children in the Sunnydell area. Surviving JoAnn are her husband Max Garth Oakey, her children, Deann Oakey of Logan, Utah, Garth Ray Oakey of Elko, Nevada, Shane Oakey of Gresham, Oregon, Lara Lynn Wright of South Weber, Utah and Brianna Dee Cowley of Wellsville, Utah. One son preceded her in death, Kim Jay Oakey. JoAnn has 21 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Jeanine Tanner of Garden Valley, Idaho, Sharon Fogg of Boise, Idaho, and Dawn Main of Wilder, Idaho.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 18th at the Sunnydell LDS Chapel, 201 West 8000 South, Rexburg. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home and again from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Sutton Cemetery.
