Sarah Joan Walker Johnson, 83, of Rexburg, passed away on June 2, 2018, at her home. She was born November 25, 1934, to Ray Willis Walker and Mabel Ovard. She was the fifth of eight children.
She married Olif Lee Johnson Jr. October 8, 1954. The marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on November 27, 1957. From this union came six children that lived.
Joan was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions over the years. She loved animals especially horses. She belonged to the Syringa Ladies riding group for many years. She treated her animals like her babies, especially her cats and she was always showing people pictures of them. People often saw her working in her garden, she loved her yard. Joan was a very creative person. She was always taking art lessons and belonged to the Art Guild in Rexburg.
Joan was known for when she made a commitment she would follow through. She was a very caring and kind-hearted person, who always was willing to help others. Family was very important to her. She often checked in with her sisters and sister-in-laws taking them things from her garden.
She is survived by her children; Melanie Clark, Dan Olif (DeDe Pullman) Johnson, Brett Lee Johnson (Julee Garner, fiancée ), Steve Willis (Holly Hiatt) Johnson, Arnold W. Johnson and Julie Ann (Jeremy Dvorak) Johnson. She was 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren with another one on the way. She is also survived by her sisters; Sharon Orme and Darlene (Farrell) Davidson, two sister-in-laws; Sylvia Walker and Charlotte Walker and a brother-in-law; Keith (Joanne) Parkinson as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Jean and Lois; two brothers, Ray and Keith; and her sweetheart of 64 years, Lee, along with his parents, Olif Lee Johnson Sr. and Ardella Ovard, a sister-in-law, Darlene Parkinson Johnson a daughter-in-law, Trina (Lorimor) Johnson and an infant granddaughter, Jasmine and an infant grandson, Julian.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at the Stonebridge LDS Chapel, 475 East 7th North. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. again Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. both times at the church. Interment will be in the Rexburg Cemetery.
