Jodi Harris

On July 24, 2026, following a hard-fought battle with cancer, Jodi LaRue Harris passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, kindness, service, and love for her family.

Jodi was born in Provo, Utah to Kent Roy and Bonnie LaRue Hall McGarry. She was the third daughter to join the family. They lived in Orem and Woods Cross Utah for a time before her family moved in 1976 to Pingree, Idaho. Following her graduation in 1991 from Snake River High School, she attended a couple of semesters at Idaho State University. She then moved to Rexburg where she has worked, raised her family and called home ever since.

She married the love of her life, Danial Harris, on October 7, 2006, in Blackfoot, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Rexburg Idaho Temple on August 17, 2018, a day that has held special significance in their eternal family.

She earned her bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University Idaho in Science and Education and later completed her Master’s degree through Western Governors University in curriculum and instruction. She had a passion for learning and dedicated her life to helping others learn and grow.

Education was more than a profession for Jodi—it was her calling. She began her teaching career in 2013 as a loved fourth grade teacher at South Fork Elementary before moving to teach sixth grade science. In 2023, she accepted a position teaching middle school in Sugar-Salem while also serving as the district’s Curriculum Director. She continued sharing her knowledge as an online instructor, touching countless students throughout her career. Her love for teaching, encouragement, and dedication left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of learning from her. Jodi also received great joy being a drivers education instructor and rekindling friendships with her past 4th graders as they became of age to drive.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jodi faithfully served in many callings over the years, including Young Women Second Counselor and secretary, camp assistant director, Primary pianist, Primary counselor and teacher, and Relief Society pianist. She joyfully shared her musical talents and testimony through her service, blessing the lives of many.

Jodi found joy in the simple blessings of life. She loved riding horses, hiking, traveling, e-biking, boating, camping, and creating lasting memories with her husband, family and friends. She also enjoyed sewing, making crafts, creating with her hands and sharing her talents with others. Of all her joys, none compared to spending time with her husband, children and beloved grandchildren, who brought light and happiness to her life.

Above all, Jodi will be remembered for her unwavering faith, compassionate heart, gentle spirit, and deep love for her family, friends, students, and her Savior. Her life was one of service, and her example will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her. She never backed down from a challenge that life threw her way and was never afraid of hard work. Her absence will be felt for years to come but the impact she has had will stay with all that knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Danial Harris, her children Rais Hansen, Saydee (Todd) Luthy, Megan (Roni) Paja, Linzie Brown, James (Taylor) Harris, her parents Kent (Zoanne) McGarry, her siblings, Lesa (Steve) Clements, Margo (Perry) Hawker and Kyle (Tiffany) McGarry, and her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother Bonnie and an infant step-son, Carter Fay Harris.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday July 31, 2026 at the Burton 1st Ward, 2332 West 2000 South, Rexburg, Idaho. Family and friends are invited to gather for a viewing Thursday night at the Church from 5-7pm and again at the church the following morning from 10-10:45am. Interment will follow in the Burton Cemetery under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home.
