John Ted Garner passed peacefully from this life following complications from Parkinson's disease, having been surrounded with family who expressed their love and gratefulness to have been blessed with goodly parents, to be reunited with loved ones that have gone before.
He was born on October 2, 1925 in Rexburg, Idaho to George Albert and Myrtle Simmons Garner, the 4th of six children. Ted attended school in Rexburg and joined the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17. He served for 3 years during WWII and honorably discharged. Following his return, he served a mission for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to the Western Canadian Mission.
After his mission, he met and married Edna Amonette, in the Idaho Falls Temple on February 27, 1952. Together they raised 11 children. Ted was a lineman for Utah Power and Light, when they were first married. He then joined his father, George and brother Brent in the George A. Garner and Sons business. (Which later became Garner concrete.)
Ted and Edna served missions in the Dallas, Texas and the Enugu, Nigeria mission. They served faithfully and made many close life long friends, that they had kept in touch with.
Ted served in many callings in the church; as ward clerk, counselor in the Bishopric, Priest Advisor, High Counselor, and was always a faithful home teacher. Ted and Edna served as ward and stake missionaries, they considered missionary work very important and at the time of Ted's death he had 5 grandsons serving full time missions. They served for many years as ordinance workers in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Ted was devoted to his wife, family and the church. Ted always had integrity, honesty and when he gave you his word he was loyal and you could count on it.
Ted had kept and written in a journal from an early age, he would make an entry almost daily about the events of the day, even if it was just about the weather.
He endured well right to end after struggling with health issues, suffering from colon cancer after returning shortly from their Nigeria mission, and later with Parkinson's disease. Through it all Dad kept his sense of humor and persevered on with Mom by his side. The family would like to express our thanks to all those that visited and helped with Dad, especially in the last difficult months of Dad's life at the Homestead Assisted Living, after the passing of his beloved wife.
