John Alfred Hillman, 84, passed away, Sunday, April 10, 2016 in Sugar City, Idaho. He was born to Gheen and Eva Buxton Hillman in Driggs, Idaho on February 27, 1932.
John grew up on the family farm, attended school in Driggs, graduating from Teton High School. He attended the University of Idaho for three years before serving in the Army. While in the Army he spent 18 months in Germany. He finished his last year at the University and graduated in Agriculture Education.
John married Patricia Dianne Heileson in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 18, 1952. John's first teaching position was at Westside High where he taught for 4 years before returning to run the family farm in Driggs. In 1972 he returned to teaching Agriculture. He taught at Sugar Salem High School for 24 years before retiring.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served as counselor in the bishopric, Elder's quorum president, Young Men's president, and ward mission leader. He and Pat served two missions, one at the Washington D.C. Temple and the other in Arizona on the Navajo Indian Reservation.
His hobbies included flying airplanes, rebuilding old horse drawn buggies, boating, camping, skiing, snowmobiling, four wheeling and keeping up with his kid and grandkids.
He is survived by his wife Patricia of Sugar City; seven children, Pamela (Rex) Hibbert of Soda Springs, Bruce (Terry) Hillman of Montpelier, Randall (Jana) Hillman of Newdale, Blair (Gretchen) Hillman of Peoria, Arizona, Keith (Shawna) Hillman of Wilford, Holly (Darin) Bratsman of Houston, Texas, Jill (Todd) Clark of Centerville, Utah; 29 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren; a sister Ronell Breckenridge of Tetonia and a brother Russell Hillman of Idaho Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters Merle, Eunice and Flora; a brother Vaun; and a granddaughter Ashley.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 15, at the gray LDS Chapel in Sugar City on Main Street. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Darby Cemetery in Driggs, Idaho.
