Obituary

John Nick Stumper, age 98, of Rexburg, died Monday, January 26, 2009 at his home. He was born September 8, 1910 at Dickensen, North Dakota to John Stumper and Catherine Schmids Stumper. He attended schools in North Dakota.

He was employed by the Northern Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads in North Dakota, Montana and Idaho. He also trailed cattle and did carpentry work in Idaho and Billings, Montana and worked in Idaho potato warehouses and at the stockyards in Idaho Falls.

He married Fern Little Myler. She died in 1979. He was recently baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

John is survived by a brother; Eddie Stumper and a sister; Helen Barth. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife and 9 siblings; Adam, Keith, Susie, Barbara, Anna, Katherina, Eva and Margaret.

Until the last week of his life, John was independent and walked everyday with the help of his cane. He did his own grocery shopping, cooked all his meals, did his own laundry and kept his apartment in immaculate shape. He always smiled and said "Hi" to everyone. He always had a positive attitude, never complained or said a negative word.

Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 29, 2009 in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Flamm Funeral Home of Rexburg.
