Ed Strobel
Joseph Edwin Strobel, 84 of Rexburg, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2010 of natural causes. Ed Strobel was born March 30,1926 on 83rd Street in New York City just a block away from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and in a Czech neighborhood. His father was an immigrant from Czechoslovakia and his mother from the Netherlands. Ed went to Brigham Young University in Utah, when he was sixteen. He served in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II. After the war he served a 2 ½ year mission to the Netherlands. When he came home, he attended the University of Utah where he met Shawna Ellison. They were married in the Idaho Falls LDS temple. Ed was a prominent businessman in southeastern Idaho and was active in civic and community affairs. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities. He loved missionary work. He loved people of all walks and faiths. Ed and Shawna served three missions together, two in the Czech Republic and one in Frankfurt Germany.
Ed is survived by his spouse Shawna. They are the parents of eleven children; James Nephi (deceased), Heidi (Mark) Riddoch of Idaho Falls, Joseph Milton (deceased), David Edwin (Sharon) of Idaho Falls, Dr. Dirk Ellison (Janie) of Rexburg, Oneita (Steve) Jeffs of Fort Collins, Colorado, Dr. John Jacob (Jan) of Idaho Falls, Richard Anton (Peggy) of Parker, Colorado, Angela (Shawn) Frisby of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Tiffany (Kent) Palmer of Victor, New York, and Joshua Taylor (deceased). He has 54 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. His greatest blessing is his children.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 8, 2010 at the Rexburg North LDS Stake Center (314 East 2nd North) with Bishop Richard Cluff officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and on Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the stake center. Interment will be in the Fielding Memorial Cemetery with Military rites.
