Joyce Ann Burch Metcalfe was born on April 5th 1944 in Ashton, Idaho, to David Lynn and
Phyllis Vera Hess Burch, and passed away at her home in Saint Anthony, Idaho on July 30th 2018 as a result of complications after a fall in the back yard.
She lived her early life in Marysville, ID and was raised by her grandmother Mary Alice Hess
and grandfather LeGrande Hess. She attended school in Mack's Inn and later they moved to
Pocatello, Idaho where she graduated from Pocatello High School.
In the summer of 1963 she met Michael Richard Metcalfe and they married on August 13, 1966
in Pocatello, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized 1974 in the Idaho Falls L.D.S. Temple.
When they were first married Joyce worked for the telephone company but quit to devote her
time to raise their six children.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many
teaching positions. She supported her husband in his callings, helping with many floats and
roadshows that they produced together.
Joyce was a fantastic cook and a good seamstress. For family gatherings she would make all of
her special recipes. She publish a cook book that she gave to her children and grandchildren as a
gift to remember her by. Joyce loved her family and spent many hours making baby blankets for
each newborn. She would visit and celebrate special occasions such as birthdays whenever she
could. She was a loyal and a compassionate person who went out of her way to help others.
She is survived by her husband Michael Richard Metcalfe, six children, Gwendalynn Metcalfe of
Idaho Falls, Idaho, Tree Metcalfe of Boise, Idaho, Amylia Metcalfe Coover of Columbus, Ohio,
Michael Todd Metcalfe of Boise, Idaho, Christopher Ryan Metcalfe of Saint Anthony, Idaho and
Douglas Michael Metcalfe of Renton, Washington. She is also survived by 14 grand children and
12 great grand children, and a sister Gloria Bahr. She will be missed by everyone. She was
preceded in death by her parents.
The family suggests donations to the LDS missionary fund.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the St. Anthony LDS Stake
Center, 247 East 4th North. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. at
Bert Flamm Mortuary, 581 East 1st North, and on Saturday from 12:00 until 12:45 p.m. at the
church. Burial will be in the Pineview Cemetery.
