Obituary

Our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Karen Rampton Lloyd, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022, in Rexburg, Idaho. She was 85 years old.

Born March 9, 1937, in Ogden, Utah, she was the 5th daughter of Royal Walker Rampton and Florence Alease Thompson Rampton.

Karen was raised in Syracuse, Utah. As an accomplished pianist and organist at a young age, she was called to serve in her congregation as the Ward Organist at age 12. She had opportunities to play the Tabernacle organ for the Sunday School Program at age 14. She continued as Ward Organist throughout her life, taking breaks along the way to serve as Ward Relief Society President, Stake Relief Society Presidency Counselor, and Sunday School teacher. Her stalwart faith and testimony of her Savior Jesus Christ was unshakeable. Her children never doubted their mother's love of God and her family.

She taught piano lessons to neighborhood children and played the piano often in our home. As children, we remember dancing and riding stick ponies around and around as she played what we called The Lone Ranger (The William Tell Overture) and Malaguena. As a full time homemaker, she made our home a peaceful place; a place where we felt safe and loved.

In 1954 Karen was introduced to BYU freshman Gordon R Lloyd from California through mutual friends and they became engaged during her senior year of high school. She graduated from Davis High in Kaysville, Utah, in May of 1955, and married Gordon on October 6 of that same year in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They moved to California immediately after the wedding to begin their life together and raise their family.

Together they raised their children while living throughout the Bay Area, Burlingame, South San Francisco, Pacifica, and Fremont. Retirement took them to Brentwood, CA. Their home was the meeting place for parties and get-togethers; sometimes for more formal events, but mostly just because they love spending time together. The Lloyd children have the best memories of jokes being played, family stories recounted, always eating, and forever laughing. Being a grandma was Karen's favorite role. Simply playing with her grandchildren and celebrating their accomplishments was total fulfillment for her. She will be sorely missed by all who loved her.

Karen is preceded in death by her parents, 4 older sisters, her precious daughter Vicki and adored granddaughter Lauren. She is survived by her husband Gordon, son Scott (Cathy), son-in-law Tom (Vicki), son Jeff (Maggie), daughter Kari (Christian), younger sister Susan, 14 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held in Rexburg, Idaho, on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at the Rexburg North Stake Center at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at the Orem City Cemetery on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at 12:00 p.m.
