Obituary

Karl Ljunggren, 77 of St. Anthony passed Saturday, July 16, 2016 at home surrounded by family.

Karl was born December 3, 1938 in Storm Lake, Iowa to Sven and Lillian Ljunggren. He grew up in Iowa and the Chicago area where him and his best friend Paul Milke and his brother Sven Ljunggren did what boys do best and just enjoyed life.

He attended high school along with his brother at Maine Township High School in the northwest Chicago area. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1954 where he met the love of his life Verna Thomas and just after two weeks were married in Reno, NV, July 21,1956. This marriage lasted for 50 years up until his wife Verna passed in December of 2005.

Karl was honorably discharged in 1956 and he and Verna settled in the Albuquerque, NM area to start their family. There they had five children Sandy (Aaron) Swensen, Karen (Danny) Thompson, Brian (Nora) Ljunggren, Geraldine (Todd) Farley, and Cyndi (Tim) Swensen, 21 granchildren, 64 great grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his wife Verna Ljunggren, parents Sven and Lillian Ljunggren, two sisters Ingrid Knasel and Pearl Peterson, granddaughter Brandi Farley, great granddaughter Huntlee Mae Stanley, great grandson D'Andre Ocean Swensen.

While building his family he entered into law enforcement serving various communities and states for 32+ years. He served the Albuquerque Police Department, Idaho State Police, Fremont County Idaho as elected Sheriff, and Bernallio Sheriff's Department NM where he retired in 1992 as a Lieutenant. He retired to his home in Rito, NM where he enjoyed his family and traveling with his wife until her passing. He then moved back to St. Anthony, Idaho where he was cared for by his "four new wives"… his daughters.

He was happiest being around family and friends, but his passion was serving his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was very active in the local Christian Church's wherever he lived spreading the Gospel to whoever would listen, especially his family. His family will miss him dearly but his love will be with them until they meet again in heaven. "Gone but never forgotten" RIP Karl Ljunggren!
