Katherine Godby was born on October 15, 1933, in Bjorkdale, Sastatchewan, Canada to John Gruber and Helena Rosalia Schneider. Also born to this family were born two dear sisters: Johanna (Jo) and Sharon, and later a stepbrother, Robert McLead. Her parents divorced in 1953. They moved to Vancouver, British Colombia.
Katherine married Gordon Harold Godby on August 18, 1951, in Vancouver, British Colombia. They had four children: Susan Carol, John Edward, Christopher Bruce, Robert Bruce. They divorced February 14, 1977.
She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on December 5, 1954. She was a devoted member her whole life and serves many times as Relief Society President and in the young women organization. Katherine will be forever grateful for the missionaries that brought her the gospel. She had a strong testimony and her relationship with her Father in Heaven, the Savior, and was directed often by the Spirit. She relied heavily on them during her life and loved them with all her heart.
She went to school to become a beautician which helped to support her family. She was an artist and did many oil paintings. She hated gardening but loved harvesting and made lots of jam and pickles. She also made a cookbook to share the family's best recipes. She sewed many clothes and quilts, was a poet, and avid reader and loved family history, making sure everyone was accounted for.
Katherine had 16 grandchildren who she adored and took great delight in. She cheered and blessed and brightened many a person's life. She loved all animals and took in many strays-especially cats. For the last few years, she fed many squirrels and birds, and they were companionship for her in her later life.
She passed away peacefully and quickly on June 18, 2022. She is survived by her sisters Jo Rempel and Sharon Harrop, her brother Robert McLead, four children Susan (Bob) Christensen, John (Barbara) Godby, Chris (Paula) Godby, Bruce (Natalie) Godby, 15 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.
