Kathleen "Kathy" Bernice Striffler was born into a Navy family, in Newport, Rhode Island on April 20, 1962. Her parents were John Patrick and Doris Ann Shelley FitzSimon.
She grew up in many places but spent most of her childhood in Bishop, Texas. She went through the Bishop school system and graduated in 1981. Kathy was always active in all school events. In Texas, football is the big event and Kathy was always a big participant in all activities, including the pep club, car rallies, bon fires, and other events that sprung up with the school. Every year since middle school Kathy was an office aide - a position that she excelled in. It always brought her great joy and pride to find a way to be helpful in any way possible.
After high school she met and married the man she would love unconditionally for 32 years - Henry William Striffler. They were married in 1983 in Bishop, Texas. They moved to Victoria, Texas where they had their daughter Jessica in 1985. Their next stop in life was to Rexburg, Idaho in 1988 where they would live the rest of their married life.
In 1992 they added a son, Glenn, to their family. It was in Rexburg that Kathy would make her unique impact on the community. Because she worked in many places she came to know many people, but the one place that really expanded her circle of friends was working for the schools, where she served as crossing guard, lunch lady and a helping hand to everyone. J
Another important facet to Kathy's circle was her sense of community which included the LDS church that held her faith, as well as the many other churches of her extended family. Her friendship knew no boundaries and one's position in the community was immaterial. She saw and cherished each person for exactly who they were and made them feel like each one was the center of her world. As much as all of her extended family meant to her, the truce center of her universe was Henry, Jessica and Glenn. There was no doubt how much pride and love she had for all three of them.
Kathy Striffler's life is proof to all of us that one person can made a dramatic impact on so many lives, not through fame, wealth or influence, but through her infectious smile and joy for life. This is her legacy that we should all take with us in life.
Funeral services, for Kathy, were held on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 with interment in the Rexburg Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to www.flammfh.com.
