Kay Maureen Kindorf, 78, of Rexburg, died Friday, November 23, 2012 at Homestead Assisted Living from complications of Alzheimer's disease. She was born September 10, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Mervin Morris Brown and Winnona Naomi Gabbitas Brown.
She attended Brigham Young University and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Homemaking Education in 1958. She taught school for 40 years, teaching all ages from pre-school to junior college.
She married Kenneth Lewis Kindorf on June 13, 1959 in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. They had been friends for nearly eight years before they started dating. Once married, they made their home and raised their family in Pleasant Hill, California. From 1981 to 2003 they resided in Issaquah and Woodinville, Washington (both in the Seattle area). Ken and Kay settled in Rexburg in the fall of 2005 after their mission to Budapest Hungary.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including as Stake Relief Society president. She was president of the UC-Berkeley LDS Institute Lambda Delta Sigma sorority for two years. She and Ken served a mission for the church from 2003-2005 in the Budapest, Hungary mission. She also served in the Seattle and Rexburg temples.
She loved teaching and working with children. She also enjoyed theater and the arts. She loved being with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Ken, of Rexburg; a son, Scott Allan (Michelle) Kindorf, of Renton, Washington; a daughter, Penny (Devon) Hughes, of Woodinville, Washington; a sister, Barbara Davis, of Palm Desert, California; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jerry Brown.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 27, at the Rexburg LDS East Stake Center, 387 South 4th East, with Bishop Mark Bennion officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the stake center prior to services.
