M. Keith Hansen, 76 of Gresham, OR, died Tuesday, November 3, while vacationing in Maui, HI.
Keith was born November 15, 1932 in Pocatello, ID to Lola McBride (Browning) and Milton Dale "Mickey" Hansen. He was raised in St. Anthony, ID. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol Siddoway, on March 27, 1953 in Idaho Falls, ID. After finishing his army service in Missouri, they moved to Oregon where he graduated from University of Oregon Dental school in 1960. He moved to Gresham, started his dental practice, and raised their six children. After Carol's death on July 12, 2006, Keith married Rebecca McIntosh on March 1, 2008.
He served on the Gresham City Council and city planning commission. He was involved in Rotary Club including a tenure as president.
He served as president of The American Society of Dentistry for Children. He was the Oregon General Dentist of the year in 1977, and earned his master's in the Academy of General Dentistry. He remained involved in study clubs and continuing education until he retired in 2005 to take care of his ailing wife, Carol.
A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he served as Bishop and counselor in the Stake Presidency. He served as Mission President of the Florida, Jacksonville mission from 1998-2001. He was also a temple worker and most recently was a Stake Patriarch. Involved in youth programs all his life, he loved scouting, earning his Wood Badge and Silver Beaver awards.
He stayed physically active throughout his life. He was a 3 sport varsity athlete in high school (baseball, football and basketball). He loved to jog and participated in several Hood to Coast relays. He was an avid snow skier and water skier until his death. He enjoyed golf, snorkeling and became scuba certified in 2006.
His life revolved around his family and his faith. His greatest joys came from vacationing with and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Becky; his mother, Lola Browning of Idaho Falls, ID; siblings, Mac Browning of Boise, ID and Clara Taylor of Idaho Falls, ID; children, Richard Hansen of Gresham, OR; Stacy Brown of Sandy, OR; Scott Hansen of Gresham, OR; Ralph Hansen of Annadale, VA; Paul Hansen of Sandy, OR; David Hansen of Spanish Fork, UT; and step children, Denise Dumas of South Ogden, UT; Tiffany Reynolds of Saudi Arabia; Jennifer Fletcher of Rexburg, ID; 38 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 12300 SE 312th Ave, Boring, OR. The family will receive friends on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:25 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Willamette National Cemetery.
