Obituary

Keith L. Sellers passed away peacefully on December 24th, 2025. He lived a life of deep faith, devoted service, and unwavering commitment to his family and to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Keith was born on April 19th, 1933, to Joseph L. Sellers and Myrtle Pearl Lucas, a difficult birth his family regarded as a miracle. From his earliest days, he felt the guiding hand of the Lord in his life, a conviction that shaped every chapter that followed.

He was raised in Hibbard and Rexburg, Idaho, and he attended Madison High School, where he excelled academically. He later attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where he earned his bachelor's and doctorate's degrees with honors, and Oregon State University, where he earned his master's. He always thought he would attend Ricks College, but one night after football practice, he felt called to go to the "Y." Without even being officially accepted to the school, he drove there and met his wife, Elva Louise Last.

Keith met his eternal companion on the first day of school, falling in love at first sight, and they were sealed in the Logan Temple on the last day of school on May 31, 1957. Together, they raised six children and built a life centered on faith, service, and family. Keith and Louise lived in many places, including Rexburg and Boise, Idaho; Altamont, Ogden, Provo, and St. George, Utah; Corvallis and Portland, Oregon; and Albuquerque, New Mexico.

A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Keith dedicated his life to his Savior. At age 20, after surviving a life-threatening accident that strengthened his resolve to serve God, he was called to serve a mission in Eastern Canada. Though interrupted by serious illness, he later completed his missionary service in the Northwestern States Mission with headquarters in Portland, Oregon, where he served as a zone leader in Portland and Seattle and later as the Second Councilor in the mission presidency. Throughout his life, he served in many callings, including Bishop, Mission President of the Albuquerque, New Mexico Mission, and Temple President of the Portland, Oregon, Temple. He also served as a seminary teacher, institute director, professor of religion, and department chair at Ricks College. During his time as professor and department chair, his classes were often overflowing, with students listening from the halls to hear his teachings.

Keith is survived by his children: Brett (Jan) Sellers of Las Vegas, Nevada; Bart (Lori) Sellers of Ogden, Utah; Karie (Casey) McGarvey of Maui, Hawaii; Becky Sellers of Wilford, Idaho; and Jamie (Aaron) Sellers of Boise, Idaho; 17 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elva Louise Sellers; sons Mark and Matthew; sisters Norma, Dorothy, and Bonnie; brothers Gordon and Joe; and parents Joseph L. Sellers and Myrtle Pearl Lucas.

Keith will always be remembered for the many lives he changed through his unwavering testimony and his profound knowledge of the gospel, which he shared with conviction and spirit. His service as a dynamic teacher in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints left a lasting imprint on all who were blessed to learn from him.  His family will deeply miss the love he showed them, his generous heart, his quick-witted humor, and his steadfast devotion and deep love for the Lord and Savior.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 30th, at the Rexburg East Stake Center. The family will receive friends on Tuesday morning from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM at the stake center prior to services. Interment will be in the Fielding Memorial Cemetery.
