Ken Abegglen
St. Anthony - Kenneth Edward Abegglen, 85, of St. Anthony, passed away July 15, 2009, surrounded by his family, at Spring Creek Manor in St. Anthony.
He was born August 25, 1923 in Wilford, Idaho to Lawrence Edward Abegglen and Mary Agnes Hansen Abegglen. While growing in the Wilford area, he attended schools in St. Anthony and graduated from South Fremont High School.
He served in the Air Force during World War II. After an honorable discharge from military service, he married Cora Verba Hunter on April 9, 1947 in Egin, Idaho. They were blessed with seven sons and one daughter. They lived in the Egin, Kilgore, and Wilford areas. Ken worked in the potato industry in the early years, raised cattle and farmed until he retired. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He loved to fish, hunt, and bowl and he was a baseball coach for many years. He loved animals, and most of all, his dogs. They were constant companions and followed him every where he went.
He is survived by his children, Dennis (Luann) Abegglen, Terry (Diane) Abegglen, Darius (Kim) Abegglen, Pat (Mike) Smith, Garin (Sherri) Abegglen, Rick (Lorna) Abegglen, and Darrell (Carma) Abegglen, 25 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, a brother, Ivan (Pauline) Abegglen, and a sister Lucille (Lowell) Palmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, 1 son, 2 grandsons, his parents, 1 brother and several half brothers and half sisters.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 20, 2009 at 11:00 at the Wilford LDS Chapel with Bishop Rodney Dalling officiating. The family will visit with friends and family Sunday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Bert Flamm Mortuary (581 E. 1st N., St. Anthony) and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the Church. Burial will be in the Wilford Cemetery where military rites will be presented by the St. Anthony VFW and American Legion. Condolences may be sent online to the family at www.flammfh.com.
