Kendall Lee Ballard, 76, of Rexburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday August 25, 2012 at the Homestead. Kendall was born in Declo, Idaho to Joseph William Ballard and Velma Mary Ballard on September 23,1935. He was the oldest of three children. He graduated from Burley High School. He then attended Idaho State University where he graduated from Pharmacy School in 1958.
Kendall met Janette Hunt at ISU and they were married August 29, 1956 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. To this union they added nine children, 6 boys and 3 girls. They have lived most of their married life in Hibbard, Idaho.
Kendall began working in the Burley drugstore when he was 14 years old, and then returned as a pharmacist after graduation. Kendall worked for Thriftway Drug in Rexburg, Blackfoot and St. Anthony. He retired in 2005, ending his career at Hunter's Drug in St. Anthony.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served cheerfully wherever he was called.
An avid scouter, Kendall became a Cub Scout in 1945 and earned his Eagle Scout award at age 16. Kendall was a scoutmaster for 16 years, helping many boys earn their own Eagle Scout awards. He served on 26 Wood badge staffs, serving as Course Director twice. Kendall received several awards including the Silver Beaver, Silver Antelope and the Distinguished Scouter Award. He was also inducted into the 1990 Scouting Hall of Fame.
He enjoyed fishing, hiking and camping. He loved the outdoors and being close to nature. He enjoyed taking his family to their favorite camping place, Scout Lake, where many choice memories were made. Kendall enjoyed collecting, and his favorite thing to collect was Idaho tokens and postcards. He was a loving father, husband, uncle, grandfather, pharmacist, and friend. He loved being with his family and making each member feel like they were important. Kendall leaves a special legacy. His sense of humor, wit and tender heart will be missed.
He is survived by his sister Leah (Wayne) Beck of Burley, his six children, Elsie (Josh) Wach of Driggs, Linnie (Lyle) McClellan of Mead Washington, Rudey (Cecilia) Ballard of Rexburg, Peggy (Richard) Strobel of Parker Colorado, Dan (Wendi) Ballard of Rexburg, Richard (Maradee) Ballard of Rexburg, 33 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren with three on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his infant brother Jerry, his wife Janette and three infant sons Michael, John and Max.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, August 30, at 11:00 a.m. in the Hibbard LDS Church, with Bishop Ron Klingler officiating. Friends may call at Flamm Funeral Home Wednesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and again at the Hibbard Church Thursday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. In honor of Kendall's scouting legacy, scout uniforms may be worn Wednesday evening. Burial will be in the Rexburg Cemetery. The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support at this time.
