Obituary

Konra Kay Withers, 69, of Rexburg, passed peacefully in her home on April 7, 2014, after succumbing to cancer. Konra's positive outlook and service oriented life had an impact on everyone she encountered.   She was born in Idaho Falls, Bonneville County, Idaho on July 20, 1944. She is the daughter of Mada Weber and William Burton Smead.

She was raised in Rexburg Idaho. The oldest of three children, she was the apple of her father's eye and the big sister to her two younger brothers Bill and Bob Smead. She was enrolled in the Madison School district throughout elementary, junior high and high school, but graduated from the St Paul's girl school in Walla Walla, WA with honors.  Konra went on to attend the University of Colorado where she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in History.

Upon returning back to Rexburg she began teaching 2nd grade in the Sugar-Salem School District. She then married Allen Yale Peterson in 1965 and had four children. Allen David Peterson, Tara Kay Peterson, Aaron Yale Peterson, Joanna Lee Peterson.  Late in 1978 they divorced and on January 4, 1980 Konra married Ralph C Withers and in December of 1980 Konra gave birth to Roy Ralph Withers. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on July 29, 1989 where the children were sealed to them.

In 1978 Konra began working for the State of Idaho in the Job Service office in Rexburg where she worked until 1988. She then continued her service oriented career and moved to the Department of Health and Welfare primarily serving the disabled and elderly. She worked there until she retired in 2005.

Konra loved her children's activities and was an active participant at their events. Konra lived a life of service and exemplified that as an active member in the LDS church where she held various callings from Sunday school teacher to Relief Society president and she always did it with a positive attitude and a smile on her face.

Konra will always be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother.

Konra was preceded in death by her mother and father and one grandson Kyler Searle. She is survived by her husband Ralph Withers, sons, David Peterson, Aaron (Darla) Peterson, Roy (Alesha) Withers; daughters Tara Withers, Joanna (Terry Richards); brothers, Bob (Sharma) Smead and Bill (Kathy) Smead, and 19 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.  on Friday, April 11, 2014, at the Park Street Chapel with Bishop Shane Wasden officiating.  The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.   Interment will be in the Sugar City Cemetery.
