Robert Kurt Young, beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away on December 14, 2015, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Kurt, 54, was born December 17, 1960, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the youngest child and only son of Robert Lamar and Maxine Anderson Young. He was raised in Idaho Falls and Island Park, attending North Fremont High School. He later attended Ricks College and Lewis and Clark State College, studying outdoor recreation and elementary education. He spent many years working in the grocery industry, working at Skaggs, Broulim's, and Albertsons.
He married his high school sweetheart, Melinda Cordon Young in 1979. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS temple and together raised eight children in Saint Anthony: Angela (Daniel) Hermosillo of Boise, ID, Suzie (Andy) Larisch of Herriman, UT, Kimberly (Rick) Raymond of Brigham City, UT, Robert (Nicole) Young of Boise, ID, Russell (Rachel) Young of St. Anthony, ID, Brandon, Kaitlyn, and Lyndsie Young, all of St. Anthony.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and will be remembered for his tearful, sincere testimony of the gospel. Kurt was an entertaining story teller, had a great sense of humor, and loved music, including playing the guitar and especially the harmonica.
Our dad had two great loves, his family and the outdoors. He spent his childhood fishing and hunting with his dad, enjoying beautiful Idaho. He was especially fond of Henry's Lake, Hebgen Lake, and Red Rock River (or anywhere the fish were biting). He passed that love on to his children who have great memories of camping, fishing, hunting, exploring, and skiing with him. His deteriorating health robbed him of his last few years and kept him from truly enjoying his family or his passion for outdoor recreation. We are heartbroken at this loss but at peace to think of him with a clear mind and a healthy body, and we know we will see him again. If there is fishing in heaven, he and grandpa are already throwing in a line.
Kurt is survived by his dedicated and perfectly loving wife, Melinda, who he "loved the most", their children, his 12 grandchildren who adored him, as well as his sweet mother, Maxine (Boise, ID), his mother-in-law, Glaydis Cordon (Ashton, Idaho), five sisters, Vicki Borg, Carol Young, LeeAnn Hemming, Shana Wright, and Terri Lowder, and lots of nieces and nephews. His father, Bob, and his father-in-law, Cleon Cordon, precede him in death.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 18, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Anthony Stake Center. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. and on Friday from 9:00 - 9:45 a.m. at the Stake Center. Burial will be in the Pineview Cemetery in Ashton under the direction of Bert Flamm Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted at Zion's Bank on behalf of his wife and three young children.
