Laretta Steel, 69 of Burton, passed away April 3, 2010 in Boise surrounded by family. She was born Feb. 8, 1941 in Rexburg to Wayne William Hansen and Nola Dean Haws of Newdale. She was fourth of six children. She attended school in the Sugar-Salem School District and Ricks College. She married Coleman M Steel in the Idaho Falls LDS temple on April 25, 1958 . They lived at Plano, Malta, ID, Warden, WA and Burton. She retired from BYU-Idaho as supervisor of the telephone office. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, quilting, and traveling to see her children and grandchildren. She was an active member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holding many callings. She particularly loved relief society. Laretta is survived by her husband of 52 years Coleman M Steel, of Burton. Her Children Todd Steel (Carolyn) of Florida, Waynette Steel (Jim Brown) of Utah, Randall Steel (Noelle) of Oregon, Terri Weaver (Randall) of Sugar City, Blake Steel (Beth) of Washington, Brenda Reeser (David) of Rexburg, Alison Shuldberg (Brian) of Texas, Richard Steel (Tanya) of Boise, Jeannette Cooley (Trevor) of Idaho Falls, Aarin Smith (Wesley) of Rigby. Forty grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings Que Hansen, Brenda Hockersmith, Brett Hansen, and Chris Peterson. She was preceded in death by a daughter, granddaughter, and older brother Vanoy. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2010 in the Burton Church with Bishop Tim McGarry officiating The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and at the church on Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services.
