Obituary

Ila LaRie Williams Sutton, 88, of St. Anthony, Idaho passed away Thursday, September 29, 2016, in the Idaho Falls Hospital.

She was born June 25, 1928 to John W. & Hattie May Williams in Chapin, ID, a farming community between Victor & Driggs. She grew up with three older brothers, Gordon, Earl, & Marvin, & two sisters, Verda Bateman & Lois Seelig.

She attended grade school in Chapin, high school in Driggs, & Ricks College in Rexburg, ID. While attending Ricks College, she met Jay Sutton, & they were married October 29, 1947 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They made their home in St. Anthony, ID, where Jay owned & operated Jay's Tune-Up for many years. She was an instrumental part in running that business, as well as raising five daughters, & being an excellent homemaker.

As a young wife & mother she enjoyed bowling, dancing, camping, hunting, & most everything they could do as a family. In her later years, she took up hiking & cross-country skiing with her daughters & sister-in-law, Margie Chantrill. She loved to garden & work in the yard & was an excellent quilter & cook.

LaRie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints & served in many capacities, including serving in the Idaho Falls Temple with Jay for 25 years. She & Jay also served two missions, one in the Philippines & the other in Texas. She was also known for her loving service to neighbors & family.

LaRie is survived by a sister, Lois Seelig of Greely, Colorado, & 4 of her 5 daughters – Pat (Zeph) Quirl of Teton, Idaho, Jackie (Scott) Valcarce of St. Anthony, ID, Louise (John) Nielson of Cedar Rapids, IA, Bonnie (Mike) Kirby of St. Anthony, ID, 26 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren. Besides her parents & husband, Jay, she is preceded in death by 3 brothers, Gordon, Earl, & Marvin Williams & sister, Verda Bateman, daughter, Melinda Friedl, & granddaughter Chalyce Quirl Young.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 7, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Anthony LDS 4th Ward Chapel. The family will meet with friends Thursday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Bert Flamm Mortuary (581 E. 1st N.) in St. Anthony & Friday from 10:00 until 10:45 just prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Archer-Sutton Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.flammfh.com.
