Obituary

Larry Dee Haws was born March 15, 1948, to Veldon Tennes Haws and LaDean Allen in Rexburg, Idaho. He grew up in Teton riding horses and having good times with his friends. He attended Teton Elementary for the first eight years of his schooling, then going to South Fremont High School, graduating in 1966. While in high school, he worked at various restaurants in St. Anthony as a cook.

He joined the Navy during the Viet Nam War. While stationed in Viet Nam, he helped teach Vietnamese people various agricultural practices and was exposed to Agent Orange. After returning from his tour of duty in the Navy, his son Justin was born while living in Teton, Idaho.

During the Gulf War, he was serving in the Navy. He and his family were stationed in Cecily, Italy, before returning to the states where he was stationed in Florida. His son Brett and daughter Brittny were with him during this time. Larry was in active duty in the Navy for 17 years. He served on the USS Abraham Lincoln, earning the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He served in the reserves for 14 years and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars where he fulfilled many duties.
After retiring from the Navy, he lived in several different cities in Washington state and California before returning to Teton City where he lived until his passing. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints his whole life, giving a strong belief in Jesus Christ.

He worked for the Juvenile Justice Correction facility in St. Anthony, Idaho for 20 years where his failing health forced him to retire. He spent several years as a child advocate in the justice system during this time. Larry got a lot of self-satisfaction from volunteering for this. While living in Teton he had a very dear group of friends that mattered very much to him, that he spent time with.

His health issues caused him to become less and less active, no longer being able to go anywhere with his friends or his brother and his dad, until his passing on August 18, 2021. He is survived by his son Justin (Jeannie) Haws, Boise, Idaho; his son Brett (Alexis) Haws, Friday Harbor, San Juan Island, Washington; and his daughter Brittny (Brad) Schultz, Hayden Lake, Idaho: his twin brother Terry Lee (Dixie) Haws, Cisco, Texas; his brother Craig (Chris) Haws, Teton, Idaho; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents. The family would like to thank his Doctors, Encompass Hospice, and Homestead for his care during his last few weeks.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery where military rites will be given by combined Madison and Jefferson County Veterans and the Idaho Navy Honor Guard. Arrangements are under the direction of Bert Flamm Mortuary.
