Larry Shupe

July 8, 1936 — March 3, 2026

Rexburg

William Lawerence “Larry” Shupe, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, at the age of 89.

Larry was born July 8, 1936, in Hamer, Idaho to William “Bill” Shupe and Alice Wade Shupe. Raised in a farming family alongside his siblings Lyle, Dee, Janet, and Pete, Larry learned the value of hard work at an early age. By the age of five he was already driving trucks and equipment on the family farm, helping with irrigation, livestock, and crops.

Larry attended Ricks College and later graduated from the University of Idaho in Moscow. In 1958 he enlisted in the United States Army and served for two years, stationed in Hawaii.

On September 25, 1964, Larry married Barbara Kay Sanders. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. Their marriage was built on love, patience, faith, and deep devotion to family. Together they raised seven children: Paul (Nancy Rivera), Raegan (Greg Orme), Dirk (Rachel Archibald), Dan (Debi Kaczmarek), Katrina (Michael Wood), Wade (Kelli Bodily), and Rachel (Reuben Decker).

Larry worked tirelessly throughout his life, often from sunup to sundown, providing for his family and helping others. He was known for his integrity, selflessness, and ability to fix nearly anything. His life reflected a commitment to faith, service, and family.

Larry faithfully served in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He was one of the first ten rural paramedics in the United States, serving with the Dubois Lion’s Club ambulance.

Larry loved reminiscing and recording memories from his life stories of farming, service, military, rabbit drives, and family that captured a unique chapter of American living.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, 6 children, 29 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, and a large extended family who loved him dearly.

He was reunited with his son, Paul, his loving parents, and his three brothers who preceded him in death.

Larry will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, faithful servant, and a man who touched many lives through service, quiet strength and kindness.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at the Stonebridge LDS Chapel, with Bishop David Anderson officiating.
