LaVon Dean Brown, 77, of Rexburg, passed away Sunday August 19, 2012 peacefully at home with his daughter by his side. Dean was born on November 18, 1934 in Goshen, Idaho to Arthur Louis and Opal Grace Brown, he was the 5th of 6 children. He attended schools in Goshen and graduated in 1952. He then attended Ricks College for one year. He served in the Army Medical Corp from 1954 to 1956. When he came home he met the love of his life Joy Clarene Mangum. They were married May 23, 1958 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. To this union they added 3 boys and 1 girl. They moved several times before settling down in Sugar City where they lived from 1971 to 2001. Dean worked construction for years before he worked as a fertilizer/ ag consultant. They moved to Polson, Montana to be closer to their boys and grandchildren in 2001. That was a special time in Dean's life as he worked with his two sons and spent time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings but his favorite was when he and Joy served together in a Ricks College Student Stake. Dean was always a happy man. You could always count on a huge smile that would make anyone's day. He was the kind of man that would give the shirt off his back. He is survived by his children, Maurice "Mo" (Tammy) Brown of Driggs, Idaho, Clarene Brown of Rexburg, Idaho, and Cody (Rebecca) Brown of Polson, Montana, as well as 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Norma (Irvine) Scott of Pocatello, Idaho, Faye (Max) Howell of Firth, Idaho, Sharon (Bill) Ormond of West Valley, Utah, Hank (Mary) Brown of Soda Springs, Idaho and a sister-in-law Fern Brown as well as many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Joy, a son, Clay Louis Brown, and a brother, Kay Brown. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 22nd at the Stone Bridge LDS Chapel, 475 E 7th N, in Rexburg. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home and again from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Sugar City Cemetery.
