Lawrence R Grover, 93, of Sugar City died February 1, 2015. He was born September 28, 1921 to Daniel Wells Grover and Martha May Ricks Grover in Rexburg Idaho.
Lawrence was the youngest, having 6 brothers and 2 sisters. His father owned and operated a dairy, where he worked from a very young age. He recounted the times of delivering milk to Rexburg residents on cold winter mornings. His father drove a Model "T" Ford to the homes and Lawrence would be the runner.
He attended Madison Schools and graduated from Madison High School. He attended Ricks College in Rexburg.
He served an LDS mission to the New England Mission. Upon returning, he met Elna Fisher. He was drafted in the army and did Basic Training at Fort Douglas. While on a short leave, Elna met him in Denver Colorado, and they were married . She returned home to Rexburg Idaho and Lawrence was shipped out to France and then to Austria where he served as an Intelligence Officer and 1st Lieutenant . He returned home in 1946.
He and Elna worked for her father, Etsil Fisher on the ranch. In 1962, Lawrence was hired by the Sugar Salem School District as the Transportation Supervisor. Lawrence and Elna then made their home in Sugar City in 1963. While at Sugar Salem, he also taught Auto Mechanics. He served on the City Council in Sugar City and was later elected Mayor. After the Teton Dam flood, they worked together to rebuild their home. He retired in 1990. Elna passed away in 2006.
He enjoyed gardening, and taking pride in his yard. He served in many church callings including Bishop. He was active in the Scouting program and received the Silver Beaver.
He is survived by his children; Marsha (Blair) Briggs of Idaho Falls, Matt (Diana) Grover of Salem, Jason (Jerri) Grover of Newdale, 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife Elna, son Kurt, grandson Bron Grover, his parents and all of his siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2014, at the Sugar City LDS Gray Church, 6 North Teton Avenue. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Sugar City Cemetery.
