Obituary

Our dear husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Lee Blaine Boyle of Rexburg, passed away on November 11, 2015 at Madison Memorial Hospital. He was born November 13, 1929, to Blaine and Pearl (Drake) Boyle.

Lee was born at home in Victor, Idaho. He grew up herding sheep and helping his father run the cheese factory. After graduating from Teton High School, he attended the University of Idaho in Moscow. During college, he joined the Air Force ROTC. Immediately after earning his bachelor's degree in Agriculture, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the US Air Force Reserve. He was activated for duty to the Korean War. After training, he boarded a ship called "Hosi" and headed for Korea in July of 1953. The war officially ended during his journey but he was very involved in cleaning and helping post-war Korea. He served as Supply Officer with his office in the airplane hangar. As a result of the noisy work environment, he had trouble with his hearing throughout his life. While serving in Korea, he was especially moved by the little Korean children. He and other soldiers fed and helped the orphans as much as possible. After serving in Korea, he stayed in the Air Force Reserves and left his service as a Major.

Lee returned home and married Lola Carol Dalley of Driggs, Idaho for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together they had 9 children. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved volunteering in community and church work. He served for many years as Scout Master and on the Eagle Board of Review for the Boy Scouts of America for many years and he received the Silver Beaver Award. Lee was extremely proud of his many sons and grandsons who earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He was active in Ricks College athletics and was inducted into the Ricks College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997. Hunting, fishing, and traveling were his favorite pass times. He especially enjoyed spending time with his brothers and sons.

After the death of his wife Lola, he married Berniece Ricks in 2007, for time in the Idaho Falls Temple. The Boyle family would like to express special love and thanks to Berniece for her loving, tender care of Lee during his final years. She made it possible for him to live comfortably at home while surrounded with love.

Lee is survived by his wife, Berniece Ricks Boyle; his children Debra Boyle, Tamara (John) Roring, Norman (Deborah) Boyle, Eric (Erin) Boyle, Douglas (Brenda) Boyle, Kristy Hemstreet, and Ryan (Kate) Boyle; his step-children Paul (April) Ricks, Michael (Elaine) Ricks, Meledy (Alan) Lords, Janice (Blaine) Wilson, Karena (Jerry) Beatty, Reid (Virginia) Ricks, Kurt Ricks, Georgia (Steve) Hagler, and Beverly (Dave) Bennett; his brothers Nile (Moana Boyle) and Barry (Kay) Boyle; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lola Dalley Boyle; his daughters Cynthia McDermott and Anita Boyle; and his brothers Gene and Don Boyle.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 18, at the Rexburg Center Stake Chapel, 590 Summerwood Drive. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Wednesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the stake center prior to services. Interment will be in the Sugar City Cemetery.

The Boyle and Ricks families extend special thanks to the Veterans of Foreign Wars; the Rexburg 14th Ward Relief Society for their compassionate service; and all those who cared for him.
