Obituary

Leland Kay Mace passed away on July 7, 2022 in Rexburg, Idaho after battling with complications associated with diabetes.

He was born May 23, 1949, in St. Anthony, Idaho to Don E Mace and Norma Branson Mace. His older sister Terri met him with great delight. He was followed with 4 more brothers, Gene, Buck, Scott, and Quin.

Leland grew up in St. Anthony with the rest of his family. He went to school at Central Elementary and Jr. High and then South Fremont High School in St. Anthony. Later in life, he attended College of Southern Idaho in the Culinary Program.

Leland's dad, Don, worked for the Yellowstone National Park Service, so the family spent many summers living at Canyon Village. The kids had great fun hiking, fishing, floating on a handmade raft and touring the park with their dad and mom. Leland also worked for the Hamilton Store in Canyon Village for two summers.

Leland joined the US Army in 1966 and served through 1972 doing a tour in Germany and two in Vietnam. During his second tour, while he was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, he prepared meals for General Westmoreland learning how to prepare higher echelon culinary meals.

After the military, Leland utilized the culinary skills he learned in the Army, working in restaurants in California and Idaho. He worked at the Youth Service Center in St. Anthony. He also worked for Myers Brothers Feed Lot, and working for other companies in landscaping and masonry work.

Leland enjoyed driving and working on all the cars he owned. He also enjoyed being in nature taking photos of nature and wildlife. While in the military, he married Mary Riddle and they were later divorced. He enjoyed helping his mother around the house and with yard work. Later in life he helped take care of his mother prior to her death.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother. Survivors include his sister and four brothers.
