Lenace Arven Burnside, 77 of Driggs, died Friday, September 25, 2009 at his home. He was born December 29,1931 at Driggs (Chapin), Idaho to Lawrence Burnside and Samantha Elizabeth Nickell Burnside. He was the eighth of eleven children and was preceded in death by his brothers: Lawrence Gail, Noel Alex, Vernile (Pug) Loyd, Royce Burnside, and sisters: Elda Bernice Hansen, Vila Pearl Keller, and Murial Sarah Buckley. He is survived by two sisters and one brother: Dorla Elizabeth Douglass of Menan, ID, Edith Valoie Nelsen, of Driggs, ID, and Doyle Burnside of Ririe, ID. Lenace had the privilege of being married to three wonderful women during his lifetime. In the Fall of 1949, he married Dorlis Joan Atchley and they had the opportunity to raise five children. Randy (the late Nelda) Burnside of Driggs, Rhonda (Duane) Stark of Butte, MT, Radena (Jim) High of Rock Springs, WY, Reesa (Mike) Monahan of Driggs, ID, and Rawd (Carolyn) Burnside of Santa Fe, TX. After the loss of Dorlis, he married Shirley Irene Foreman Finch in 1975 and together they raised eight more children: Deborah (Mark) Finch Johnson of Washingtonville, NY, Shauna (Jim) Finch Hallmark of Ankeny, IA, Joel (Laura) Finch of Salt Lake City, UT, Sharlene (Wendell) Finch Jolley of Shelley, ID, Rick (Bea) Burnside of Tetonia, ID, Chris Burnside of Driggs, ID, Brad (Rachel) Burnside of Driggs, ID, and Brent (Valerie) Burnside of Spanish Fork, UT. After the loss of Shirley, he married Judy Johnson in 2000 and increased his family with Kim (Jason) Nicholson of Driggs, ID, and Jeff (Melissa) Joplin of Loveland, CO. He is survived by his wife Judy, and all of his children. He has 73 grandchildren and 58 great grandchildren. Lenace worked for the Idaho State Transportation Department for 42 years. He loved to plow snow and worked mostly on Piney Creek Pass over to Swan Valley. During the off times, he enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle. He enjoyed working on his farm where he ran a dairy for most of his life and especially liked riding horses. He was an avid square dancer but mostly he loved spending his later years with his grandchildren. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days Saints.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at the Driggs LDS Stake Center with Bishop Roy Moulton officiating. The family will receive friends Monday night at the stake center from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday prior to services. Interment will be in the Darby Cemetery.
