IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leonard
Sheetz
May 13, 1938 – January 20, 2018
Our husband and father, Leonard E. Sheetz, Jr. Returned to his Heavenly Father on Saturday, January 20, 2018 due to complications from pneumonia.
He was born in Brea, California on Friday, May 13,1938 to Leonard E. Sheetz and Blanche Ruth Henry. Len attended La Habra High School and after graduation he entered active service in the U.S. Navy, following in his father's footsteps.
He served honorably as an Electronics technician on the U.S.S. Ticonderoga. After leaving the military, he was recruited by General Dynamics to work on the Minute Man II guidance project which took him to Ogden, Utah. While living there, he met his eternal love on a blind date.
Len married Jo Ann Black on October 6,1962 in Elko, Nevada. They moved back to S. California where Len was taught the Gospel of Christ by missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint. He accepted the invitation to be baptized and remained a faithful, active member for the rest of his life. Len and Jo Ann's marriage was solemnized in the Los Angeles temple on June 3,1967. He served as a Boy Scout leader , ward mission leader, 2nd counselor in a bishopric and other callings. Len adopted Jo Ann's children Ricky and Tammy. They had three more children James, Daniel and Brian.
After military service, Len provided for his family by working as an electrician. The family moved frequently, following jobs across the West including California, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. Len and Jo Ann returned to Rexburg in 2003.
Upon retiring from work in 2009, Len found he had plenty of time to indulge in his love of fishing. His favorite fishing home was at Chester Dam. He often took his grandchildren with him and passed on his skills to them.
Len will always be remembered for his quiet gentleness, his great love for his family and his sense of humor. He will be greatly missed in this life by those who remain.
He is survived by his wife Jo Ann Sheetz of Rexburg and children; Tammy Ann Duke of Rexburg, James L. (Vicky) Sheetz of Rexburg, E. Daniel Sheetz of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Brian K. (Jane) Sheetz of Rexburg, a sister Susan (Fred) Patterson, 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a son Ricky Lane Sheetz.
