Obituary

Linda Jean Hansen Lofgran, 74, died peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at the Homestead Assisted Living Center in Rexburg, Idaho.

Linda was born December 13, 1948, in St. Anthony, Idaho, to Harvey Alma and Amy Bair Hansen. She was raised on the family farm in Wilford and attended schools in St. Anthony. She graduated from South Fremont High School in 1967 as a National Merit Scholar and was awarded a full scholarship to Brigham Young University, where she graduated in August 1971 with a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.

Linda began her nursing career at Payson City Hospital, working closely with the Director of Nursing, Jeanne Lofgran, who introduced Linda to her son, Robert Curtis Lofgran. Robert and Linda began dating and were married the following year on September 7, 1972, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year at a family gathering.

For the first eleven years of their marriage, Linda and Robert lived in Utah, where Linda worked as a nurse at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City to support Robert through medical school and pediatric residency. During this time, they welcomed their first four children. Upon completion of Robert's training in 1983, the family moved to Rexburg, Idaho, where two more children were born.

Linda was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and diligently served in callings in the Relief Society, Sunday School, Young Women, and Primary organizations. She also served as a ward missionary and a Rexburg Temple ordinance worker. Linda treasured her opportunity to serve a mission with Robert in January 2017 through July 2018. Together they served as area medical advisors to fifteen missions throughout Utah and Idaho.

Linda's entire life was full of quiet service to others. She provided skilled nursing care for her mother, uncle, and brother on a daily basis for nearly thirty years. Linda and Robert made many sacrifices over the years while encouraging their children to pursue their educational goals. Linda also helped her children with what seemed at times to be innumerable cross-country moves and the births of many precious grandchildren. Linda was also a steadying, calming influence to friends and neighbors facing various challenges in life. Her quiet wit and warm sense of humor brought a smile to the downtrodden.

Linda found great joy researching her family history and had a special love for her ancestors. A highlight of her life was visiting Denmark and Sweden in 2016 and visiting the birthplaces of those whom she had grown to love. During the pandemic years, she and Robert were able to submit over one thousand names for temple ordinance work.

Linda was an accomplished pianist and organist and especially loved playing the hymns. She loved to quilt and made beautiful heirlooms for her children and grandchildren. Linda had a special love for animals, especially dogs and cats.

Linda was cherished and loved by her entire family. She is survived by her husband, Robert; six children: Michael (Janna) Lofgran, Steven (Brandi) Lofgran, Brian (Nicole) Lofgran, Amy (Jason) Hymas, Lindsay Lofgran, and Jeffrey (Kimberly) Lofgran; and twenty-eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Paul Hansen; and a granddaughter, Juliet Rose Lofgran.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the Cresthaven Church, 1070 S. Second East in Rexburg at 11:00 am. The family will meet with friends Friday evening from 5:30-7:00 at the church and again on Saturday morning from 10:00-10:45 at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Rexburg City Cemetery under the direction of Flamm Funeral Home.

We wish to thank the caring staff at the Homestead and the nursing staff at Aspen Hospice for their loving care of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.
