Obituary

Pure courage and profound love were the essence of our wife, mother, daughter, sister, Linnea Cottam DelHoyo.  She was the only sister planted among five burly brothers which was probably the reason she received the name Linnea, a beautiful flower found among the northern Alps of Europe.

She and her parents and five brothers lived in many places through those growing up years.  Buffalo, New York was a favorite which probably accounts for Linnea's soft spot for the Buffalo Bills football team.  By the time she reached the age of 21, she embarked on her full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Missouri, Independence Mission 1992-93.  In September of 1995, she met Sergio Jason DelHoyo.  A week after meeting him they became engaged which generated a slew of parental concerns flying their way.  Nonetheless, they married in the Salt Lake Temple two months later and went on to 28 years, four children, and two major home moves -- 23 years in Virginia and three years in Idaho.

Linnea graduated with honors from Weber State University with a degree in Logistics and Transportation.  She loved the big machinery and always teased her father-in-law about the huge jets he piloted.  She was happy whether it was operating a track-loader or driving a jet ski or skimming across the lake on a speed boat.  Her greatest joy, her eternal loves are her family.  She and her husband Jason had four miracle children.  Quoting her firstborn, Alexa, "She always found creative ways to make us feel loved and that we had a place."  She always called them Pretty Alexa, Sweet Gavin, Joyful Aunika, Happy Jacqueline.  They each reflected her love, her strength.

Her courage was most evident in the battle she fought her whole life against the monster, diabetes.  She was magnificent in her resilience.  But on a snowy, Wednesday morning, January 17, 2024, she finally bowed to the brutality of the disease.  We love her so much, but her Heavenly Father called her home, and He knows best.

Linnea is preceded in death by her father Stephen M. Cottam. She is survived by her husband Sergio Jason DelHoyo and their four children, Alexa, Gavin, Aunika, Jacqueline, by her mother JoAnn Wilkinson Cottam, and her five brothers, Wayne, Dale, Sterling, Nathan, and Bryce Cottam.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 25 at 11:00 a.m at the Stonebridge LDS Chapel. Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. till 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be held on Friday, January 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn and Memorial in Salt Lake, UT.
