Obituary

Lionel James Jensen, 75, of Rexburg, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2016 at his home surrounded by family.

Lionel was born on May 28, 1941 in Rexburg to Leland and Melba Jensen, the first of six children. He was followed by his siblings, Karen, Garth, Sheila, Sonja and Douglas.

He was raised on the family farm in Burton and attended school at Burton Elementary, Madison Jr. High and graduated from Madison High School. Lionel met Cassie Lydia Holden while they both were attending Ricks College. They were married on September 1st, 1961 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.

In his younger years he worked road construction and was a truck driver, but his passion was always on the farm. He farmed with his brothers, uncles and cousins up until 1998.

Despite being born with only one hand there was very little that he could not do. He enjoyed golfing, baseball, fishing and hunting. In 2005, after discovering the magazine "Toys for Joy", he developed a love for building wood toys. He spent countless hours in his shop creating these meticulous works of art.

He was preceded in death by his son, Randall Lionel and his parents, Leland and Melba Jensen.

He is survived by his wife, Cassie, his four children, Jeff (Sindy) Jensen of Rexburg, Paula (Wayne) Wilcock of Fairview, Utah, Kellie (Craig) Murdock of Terreton, and Pam (Rod) Parkinson of Rexburg, 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Garth (Gina) Jensen of Clayton, Indiana, Douglas (Sundee) Jensen of Rexburg, and sisters, Karen (Don) Moedl of Bullhead City, Arizona, Sheila (Alan) Porter of Stansbury Park, Utah and Sonja Moldenhauer of American Falls, Idaho.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the 6th floor staff at EIRMC and to the many others that helped with his care.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 18, at the Burton West Church, 3958 W. 2000 S. with Bishop Shawn Gee officiating.
