IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Liselotte
Janson
June 2, 1933 – March 30, 2023
Liselotte Janson, 89, of Holts Summit, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at her home. She was born on June 2, 1933 in Fullinsdorf, Switzerland; a daughter of the late Karl and Emma (Weisskopf) Schaffner. She was united in marriage to David Janson (June 22, 1951), who preceded her in death in 2010.
Mutti (German for "mommy"), as she is affectionately called, immigrated alone at the age of 17. She arrived through Ellis Island in 1950 and was sponsored by David's parents in Rexburg, Idaho while David served as a missionary in her homeland. They married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple less than a month after David returned home from his missionary labors. They were always faithful members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
Mutti worked hard to learn english and went to nursing school when she was pregnant with her 5th child. She worked as a nurse for over 30 years, most of those years as a cardiology nurse in Washington state. She was forced into retirement because of her degenerating eyesight. However, she always had the nurturing heart that likely inspired her aspiration to be a nurse. She continually cared for others, including her husband until he died. She kept her doors open to others and was known as Mutti for many more young people than just her own children. The friends of her children loved to come to the Janson home just to hear her sweet Swiss accent and to relish in her feisty temperament.
Liselotte was fiercely devoted to her family. She loved road trips, sightseeing, viewing the beauties of nature, sour green apples with salt (often sneaking onto strangers' property to snitch a few while on road trips), Swiss chocolate, cheese, spaghetti, Lucille Ball, Jerry Lewis, and all things slapstick. Her laugh was joyous and pure delight. She loved speaking on the phone in Swiss German with family overseas. She and Vati ("Daddy" in German) would speak in German when they didn't want the children to know what they were saying. Mutti was truly a child at heart. One of her great thrills was hugging Mickey Mouse at Disney World while visiting one of her children in Florida.
She is survived by her children; Cheryl Gaskill, Daniel Janson, Holley Janson (Cheryl), Simone Rich (Greg), Darrell Janson (Tara), and foster son Gary Wierleski; 19 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother in Switzerland; Willi Schaffner.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband David; her parents Karl and Emma Schaffner; siblings Babette, Emil, Rosa Lina, Karl, and Emmeli; and her granddaughter Sarah
