Lois Grover, 86, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013, in Gresham, Oregon from natural causes. She had been visiting her daughter, Beverly.
Lois Mabel Walker was born on 9 May 1927, the first child born to Ray Willis Walker and Mabel Ovard Walker. Lois grew up helping her father on the farm and had a deep love for all animals. She also learned how to work hard very early in life. Lois graduated from Madison High School and Ricks College with an Education Degree on June 1, 1947.
On 3 June 1947, Lois married her eternal sweetheart, Dean R Grover, in the Idaho Falls Temple. She worked side by side with him, as they owned and operated Grover's Dairy (1947 until 1954). Then they built and operated Grover's Drive Inn (1954 until 1964). Lois started work at the Post Office where she was a mail carrier for 18 years. She also worked at Madison Memorial Hospital, and tested milk for the USDA.
Lois loved genealogy, and spent many hours collecting and compiling information for temple work. She served as president of the Walker Family Organization for many years and she helped publish the Thomas Grover Book.
Lois was an active member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many organizations, including Primary, Young Women's, and Relief Society both on ward and stake levels. She served many years in the scouting programs and contributed to many young men receiving their Eagle Scout Award, including her six sons. She was awarded the Silver Beaver in 1990 for her service. Lois served as an ordinance worker in the Idaho Falls and Rexburg Temples. She and Dean served a mission to Zaire, Africa and to Soccoro, New Mexico.
She was very active in Daughters of Utah Pioneers serving in many camp offices and also as President of the Madison County DUP. Lois received the Distinguished Emeritus Service Award from Ricks College in 1998.
Hers was a life of service to others. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her children. Her love and example will remain in our hearts forever.
She is survived by her ten children and spouses: Diana and Kendell Fuller of Rexburg, Morris and Cindy Grover of Newport Beach, OR, Paul and Kathleen Grover of Maricopa, AZ, Val and Teresa Grover of Rexburg, Susan and Dave Salvesen of Rexburg, Beverly and Dean Nelson of Gresham, OR, Michelle and Matt Steel of Garden City, KS, Scott and Sandy Grover of Logan, UT, Steven and Denise Grover of Peoria, AZ, and Jeffrey and Tiffany Grover of Rigby; 60 grandchildren and 90 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Ray Walker, sisters: Sharon Orme, of Salem, Darlene Davidson, and Joan Johnson all of Rexburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Dean R Grover, her parents Willis and Mabel Walker, a sister Jean Walker, a brother, Keith Walker and a granddaughter, Jennifer Grover.
Funeral services will be held at11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2013 at the Stonebridge LDS Chapel, 475 East 7th North. The family will meet friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2013, at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Monday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be at the Rexburg Cemetery.
