Obituary

Lois Jean Hanlin Phillips was born Feb 9, 1932 to Nellie Gay Dye Hanlin and Plenny Amos Hanlin at Elkview, Kanawha Co. in West Virginia.

Lois was the last surviving member of nine siblings that included Donna, Bruce, Paul, Carl, Dale, Phyllis, Fern, & Joanne. Her parents are buried at: Pisgah United Methodist Cemetery, De Kalb, Gilmer, West Virginia. Her little sister - Joanne Hanlin is buried at Mount Liberty Cemetery Tanner, Gilmer, West Virginia.

Lois graduated from Tanner High School in 1949 and attended Glenville State College for 2 years majoring in music. She married John S. Phillips July 26,1952 after meeting him at a roller skating rink in Lorain, Ohio.

Their family includes six kids- Sharon (Donald), Gary (Nancy), Tammy, Lori (Jack), John (Michelle) & Kim (Brent); l8 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Her husband, John, passed away July 3, 2002 of pancreatic cancer. A granddaughter, Heidi JoAnna Armstrong, passed away October 24, 2003. She passed away on May 30, 2024 at home surrounded by love.

The family is grateful for all of the support from Hospice so our mother could pass away at home. Our mother lived her life with courage, strength, and unconditional love. To the very end our mother demonstrated a kind heart, a sweet spirit, and sense of humor. Lois' advice: Live life to the fullest and enjoy every day. Remember your fellow man.
