Obituary

Lorin Reynold Hales, age 86, of Sugar City, died at his home with his loving wife, JaNele, by his side on October 15, 2024.  Lorin was born August 13, 1938, to Camille Janson Wylie and Lloyd L. Hales in Rexburg, Idaho.  He spent his growing up years in several places including Oregon and Idaho and settled back in Rexburg where he graduated from Madison High School.  He served a mission in the Northwestern States for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  After his mission he attended Ricks College where he finished the requirements to be an auto mechanic.  He married Linda R. Smith of Sugar City, Idaho on February 27, 1964 in the Idaho Falls Temple.  They settled in Sugar City where they raised five children and spent 38 years together until Linda's passing in 2002.

Lorin worked at "the shop", Lorin's Auto Repair, for over thirty years.  He helped repair many automobiles for friends and neighbors.  Lorin was a hard worker, dedicated to supporting his family and teaching them how to work hard by raising a garden, taking care of their home and yard and teaching them how to fix and maintain cars.  He also enjoyed taking his family on snowmobile and motorcycle rides.

Lorin was privileged to marry JaNele Jensen on January 12, 2008.  He enjoyed many adventures with JaNele in their retirement, especially traveling to visit their respective children and grandchildren together.

Lorin served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and shared his testimony of the Savior often with his children and grandchildren during the last few years of his life.  He also served with JaNele in the Rexburg, Idaho Temple.

He is survived by his wife, JaNele; children Daran (Celeste), Sean (Heidi), Tawna (Kevin), Jeanna (Kelly); stepchildren Donele, Allen, Joyce, Letisha (Aaron) and Misti (Kevin); siblings Christie, Lenny and Calvin; 17 grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild and 4 step great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his eternal companion, Linda; son, Nick (Amy); and siblings, Neanne, Timothy and Sonya.
