Obituary

Louella Percy, 102, known by most of us as Gram or Dorty, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at her daughter's home in Rexburg. The family would like to express appreciation for the kindness and tender care she was given from Solace. She loved all the nurses and aides from Solace who came to assist her and comfort her.

Louella was born August 8, 1912 in Wilcox, Nebraska to John Olaf Munson and Helga Marie Falk. She was the third child in a family of eight children. She grew up in Nebraska with many wonderful family memories. One memory is of her dad always watching for tornadoes. In the summer evenings, he'd roll his denim coat into a ball to use for a pillow and then lie out in the yard and watch the clouds. If a thunderstorm were heading their way, he'd herd the family down into the cave.

In the evenings, the family would gather around the piano and sing. Louella played piano, harmonica and accordion. She never had lessons, but learned to play by ear. Her dad was very musical, as were some of her siblings.

She loved being outdoors – riding horses, climbing trees, jumping from the barn into a pile of hay, playing games, etc. She always preferred working in the fields with her Dad to being in the house, cooking and cleaning. The last two or three years of her life, she wasn't able to go out and work in the yard, and she missed that so much.

She married Leslie Orval Percy on December 1, 1935. Their wedding was held the same day as her grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary, and took place in her grandparents' home near Axtell, Nebraska.

The family moved to Idaho in 1937, looking for work. Here they stayed.

Leslie and Louella had three children – Richard (Mary Jane Burman), Vaughn (Mary Ann Pedersen) and Jeannine (Frank C Clark, Jr).

She worked at many jobs as she was always trying to help make ends meet. Most of this was seasonal work, working in the fields or in the food processing plants.

Louella lived in Sand Hollow (between Ontario, OR and Caldwell, ID) for over 40 years, putting her heart and soul into her yard and garden. Every morning she would do what had to be done inside and then hurry out to her yard. She would work for hours, wearing herself out. She would go to bed exhausted, but then couldn't wait until the next day to get back to her yard.

She loved board games, especially Yahtzee and Skipbo (which she usually won) and often played solitaire to 'unwind.' She also enjoyed doing the daily jumble puzzle in the newspaper.

Louella liked eating out, often having a bowl of soup and a piece of pie. She liked to watch Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights. She loved being with family and relatives, especially enjoying new babies and watching them grow up.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her two sons, her daughter-in-law Mary Ann, son-in-law Frank, six of her siblings: Floyd, Vera, Eddie, Dee, Bud and Bonnie; Her grandson, Cary, great grandchildren, Lindsay Rae, Joshua, Eugene and Leslie.

Survivors include daughter Jeannine, daughter-in-law Mary Jane, sister Elva, grandchildren: Rick (Jackie), Mike, Jaena (Brent), Kristy Lynn (Anthony), Carmel (Mike), Guy (Machel), Cindi (Eric), Joshua (Charity) and Luke. Great grandchildren: Chris, JC, Justin (Brittany), Brittany (Garret), Torin, Mauri, Buddy, Nick, Asia, Sidney Jo, Logan, Canyon, Kolton, Journey, Meridian, Jonah and Riley. Great great grandchildren: Sean, Natalie, Amelia, Jade, Hyrum, Eliza and Chloe - and numerous nieces and nephews who affectionately called her 'Auntie' or 'Aunt Dorty.'

She loved her family, especially all these sweet grandchildren, great grandchildren, and now great great grandchildren.

When Louella was asked the secret to her longevity, she would respond, "Hard work!" Then, with a twinkle in her eye and a smile, she would add, "And fudge."

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday January 17, 2015 at the New Plymouth Second Ward Church, 521 South Plymouth Ave, New Plymouth, Idaho. Viewing prior to services 10:00-10:45 am. Interment will be in the Parkview Cemetery, New Plymouth, Idaho.
